Oliver Kahn’s career also includes defeats and his special character. The last-minute defeat in the Champions League final against Manchester United in 1999 is legendary. The transformation from an overly ambitious “Titan” and “King Kahn” to a “normal” human being characterized the final years of his career.

From machine to human being.
What had begun with his mistake in the 2002 World Cup final came to an end in the lost battle against Jens Lehmann for the number one spot in the national team at the 2006 World Cup: Kahn accepted the harsh decision of the then national coach and Bayern coach Jürgen Klinsmann and sat on the bench as a substitute. To this end, he reached out to his rival before the penalty shootout against Argentina, showing his human side.

Oliver Kahn is the initiator and jury member of the TV casting show “I never give up – the Kahn principle” in China, a competition show in which the up-and-coming goalkeeper talent in China is sought. Golf is Oliver Kahn’s great passion. As an ambassador for the Ryder Cup – the world’s most prestigious golf tournament – he is campaigning for Germany’s bid to host the event in 2018.
